Edit Question Layout

Question Layout editing allows you to customize how a specific question will appear when an exam is published.

Unlike layout templates, which can be shared by many questions, a question layout override applies only to the selected question (or to a selected question within a specific exam).

Question layout overrides are typically used when a question requires a unique arrangement that cannot be achieved using a reusable template.

Editing a Question Layout

To edit the layout for a question in a question bank:

  1. Open the Question Bank window.
  2. Select the desired question bank.
  3. Select the question.
  4. Click the Layout button.

Edit Question Layout

The Layout Editor opens in Question Layout Mode.

Changes made in this mode apply only to the selected question.

Editing an Exam Question Layout

A question may also have a layout override that applies only within a particular exam.

To edit an exam question layout:

  1. Open the Exam Editor window.
  2. Select the desired exam.
  3. Select the desired exam question.
  4. Click the Layout button.

The Layout Editor opens in Exam Question Layout Mode.

Changes made in this mode affect only the selected question within the selected exam.

Applying a User Template

Question Layout Mode allows an existing user-defined template to be used as a starting point.

From the controls on the left side of the Layout Editor, select one of the available user templates and apply it to the current question.

Once applied, the layout becomes a question-level override and can be modified independently without affecting the original template.

Editing Fonts

The left side of the Layout Editor also contains font controls.

These controls are enabled whenever the selected element supports font customization, such as:

Changing the font updates the previews so you can immediately see how the published question will appear.

Previewing the Layout

The Layout Editor provides two preview tabs:

These previews allow you to verify that the question layout appears correctly in both published formats before saving your changes.

Saving a Question Layout

When you save the layout, the current question receives its own layout override.

During exam publishing, PrimeExam uses this layout in preference to any matching user-defined or default template.
