Question Bank Topic Tree

The Topic Tree provides a convenient way to organize and locate questions within a question bank based on their assigned topics.

To use the Topic Tree, you must first import and activate a topic group using the Topic Editor. Questions should also have one or more topics assigned.

Opening the Topic Tree

To display the Topic Tree:

  1. Open the Question Bank window.
  2. Select a question bank.
  3. Enable the Topic Tree checkbox located in the lower-left corner of the window.

The Topic Tree will appear beside the question list.

Topic Hierarchy

Topics are organized in a hierarchical tree.

Each topic may contain one or more child topics, allowing subjects to be organized from general categories down to increasingly specific topics.

This makes it easy to browse large collections of related topics.

Filtering Questions

The Topic Tree can be used to filter the question list.

To filter questions:

  1. Select a topic in the Topic Tree.
  2. Enable the Filter checkbox located at the top of the Topic Tree.

The question list will display only questions that are associated with the selected topic or one of its descendant topics.

This allows you to quickly focus on a particular area of a subject without affecting the contents of the question bank.

Searching the Topic Tree

If the Topic Tree contains many topics, you can search for a particular topic by name.

To search:

  1. Enter text into the search box above the Topic Tree.
  2. The first topic whose name contains the search text is automatically selected.
  3. Use the Next and Prev buttons to move to the next or previous matching topic.

The search is useful for locating topics quickly without manually expanding and browsing the tree.

Assigning Topics to Questions

The Topic Tree is most effective when questions have been assigned one or more topics.

Questions without assigned topics cannot be located using topic filtering.

For information about assigning topics to questions, see the Question Editor.
